I don’t know who needs to hear this, but oily skin with blemishes needs as much hydration as any other skin type.

When you have oily, blemish-prone skin, it’s normal to wonder if adding a layer of face moisturiser will make the problem better or worse. Here’s the deal: the shiny appearance of the skin is due to the excessive secretion of sebum. This excess sebum dilates the pores and promotes the appearance of pimples and blackheads which then become lodged in the pores. A suitable moisturiser for your skin type will help regulate this excess production and work to rebalance the skin.

Cleanse to better moisturise

Always hydrate after a good cleanse. Washing your face resets the excess sebum to zero and flushes out impurities. Be sure not to use a harsh cleanser since it would lead to your skin producing even more sebum to compensate and defend itself. It’s best to turn to a gentle cleanser which is better for your skin’s protective hydrolipidic film barrier. There are ingredients that are ideal for acne like binchotan, a Japanese activated carbon that purifies the skin, and zinc PCA, an anti-seborrheic agent that eliminates excess sebum. Together, they cleanse the skin and pimples and prevent the appearance of new ones. These active ingredients, perfect for blemish-prone skin, are featured in our face cleanser which helps prime and prep your skin to apply products to.

Moisturise and mattify in one step

Once cleansed, acne-prone skin is then ready to receive a specific moisturiser. Providing it with what it needs to maintain its proper hydration encourages it to produce less sebum, which leads to fewer dilated pores and fewer pimples. A good face cream will contain moisturising ingredients like plant oils, provitamin B5, or even shea butter. In addition to these moisturising agents, this formula can also keep your skin matte all day with ingredients like silica, an absorbent mineral. Our mattifying moisturiser contains all these ingredients in order to hydrate pimple-prone skin while preventing it from shining. Discreet and efficient, aka everything you’d want in a double agent.

To sum it up, blemished skin just needs to be cared for and hydrated to produce less sebum and therefore fewer pimples. So hydrate more to maintain clear skin!
