Get your skin to go back in time with the right anti-ageing habits, plus a targetted serum once you’re over 30

Many of you have asked us “when do you need to use an anti-ageing or anti-wrinkle treatment?” and the answer is simple: we’re already doing it by insisting on the importance of cleansing and moisturising the skin. Any cream can claim to tackle the signs of ageing, including wrinkles, brown spots, sagging and thinning of the skin.

Think good anti-ageing habits rather than dedicated creams

Betting consistent with a simple skincare routine without it needing to label it as “anti-ageing” is already a good start. Skin ageing is essentially caused by factors against which we cannot fight, such as genetic issues and gravity in particular. But there are rejuvenating countermeasures we can easily be taking to keep our skin in tip-top shape: cleansing, moisturising, and protecting it from the sun.

Protect yourself from the sun

Sun exposure still remains the main external factor of skin ageing. UV rays penetrate into skin cells and damage their ability to produce melanin, collagen, and elastin. This is what causes dark spots, wrinkles, and loss of elasticity. Too much sun exposure leads to noticeable premature ageing, so be careful to protect yourself intelligently with an SPF cream that’s adapted to your skin type. This is more than just your best bet for anti-ageing but even anti-cancer.

Cleanse and hydrate

Pollution is a major factor in skin ageing. It causes the release of free radicals and accelerates oxidative stress in the skin. This is why it’s so essential to cleanse it daily with a Purifying Face Cleanser to get rid of the impurities that have accumulated throughout the day.

Then be sure to apply a skincare product that’s packed with antioxidants to counteract the harmful effects of pollution. This is the basis for preventing the signs of ageing and in turn, slowing down the appearance of wrinkles on a daily basis. Our Rich Face Moisturiser and our Mattifying Face Moisturiser contain antioxidants like nourishing organic shea butter, hydrating organic prickly pear oil, and anti-inflammatory vitamin E (Tocopherol in the INCI).

We also recommend using our Face Firming Gel regularly. With its formula based on two hyaluronic acids, it tones the skin and fills in wrinkles that are accentuated by dehydration.

As a weekly boost, exfoliating the skin brings radiance to the face and stimulates cell renewal and blood microcirculation. Our Gentle Face Scrub is also packed with antioxidants like murumuru butter which helps restore the skin's defensive hydrolipidic barrier, malted barley to brighten dull skin, and anti-inflammatory, healing vitamin E.

Improve your lifestyle

Tobacco use is another free radical accelerator. It impairs your skin’s microcirculation, which leads to a decrease in the supply of oxygen and nutrients that the cells need. This is why your complexion becomes dull. What’s more, smoking tobacco regularly deteriorates the production of collagen and elastin, the fibres that are responsible for your skin’s strength and elasticity. Although we know how difficult it can be, quitting smoking will always be more beneficial than any self-proclaimed anti-ageing cream.

The quality of your skin also depends on the quality of your sleep and what’s on your plate. For your skin to have all the cards in hand to regenerate well, it’s in your best interest to provide it with the nutrients it needs by loading up your diet with fruits and vegetables that are full of water, vitamins, and antioxidants. We also recommend sleeping for at least 7 hours every night to allow your skin to regenerate. No anti-ageing cream can make up for your lost hours of sleep.

Anti-ageing treatments dedicated to the past thirties

In your thirties, you may want to further shield your skin against the signs of ageing. As we age, collagen and elastin levels naturally decline from the age of 25, causing the appearance of deeper wrinkles. It’s estimated that collagen loss is around 1% per year from the age of 40. What’s more, the production of hyaluronic acid also slows down. Capable of retaining up to 10,000 times its molecular weight in water, this substance is naturally produced by skin cells to maintain hydration. It remains the most recognized active ingredient in anti-ageing skincare.

Skincare brands have understood this well since many of them offer serums, creams, and other masks based on this miracle ingredient. Once you see your first wrinkles, we recommend using the Hyalu B5 serum by La Roche-Posay or the Hyaluron Serum by Susanne Kaufmann. Apply a few drops to your skin each day just before applying your mattifying or rich moisturiser. Highly concentrated, these serums are able to penetrate deeper into the skin where it all happens.

For those with more advanced signs of ageing, we recommend the pure Active Hyaluronic Acid from Etat Pur. Apply the product locally on your wrinkles. This advice comes from one of our most loyal customers, Maxime Chanzy, who shared his routine with us.

As you may have understood, before the age of thirty, there’s no point in turning to products that are labeled anti-ageing. After thirty, serums based on hyaluronic acid should become a staple of your routine.
