The key to a perfect beard is here.

Waxing your cheekbones is not the kind of activity men confess easily. Like having lucky underwear, or loving ballet. Wrongly, obviously, as it is something one should be proud of. Practical guide to shine with your cheekbones.

Let’s start with the beginning: etiquette is unfair. It’s broken unbeknownst to us. That’s why it’s vital to know the rules in order not to be their victim. Thus, cheekbones are like the Adam’s apple: both zones must remain hairless. Your beard will be well-groomed and you won’t look careless, which is the only way your hair won’t look out of place in a professional setting. The rule is simple: any hair higher than the line of the bulge of your cheekbone, that appears when you smile, must go.

Don’t cheat

You could deal with the matter by shaving everyday, but that would defeat the purpose of having a bear. Be aware that barbers do it quite often, with wax for the most classical, the Turks with a string. Both methods have a track record of success.

But for a number of reasons, it’s not always possible to go to the barber regularly. Fortunately, you can proceed by yourself by following a few easy steps, as painful as taking off a band-aid.

To do so, you’ll only need a few cold wax strips, tweezers, and moisturising cream.

A few seconds of pain

Start by standing in front of your mirror. Admire yourself a moment, especially both your profiles. From the corner of your moustache, your hairline meets your sideburn: over it, hair should disappear. The process is simple: heat a cold wax strip between your hands, and apply on superfluous hairs, contrary to the implant’s direction - from your mouth to your ear. Make sure the strip is well applied, and take it off backwards, pulling from ear to mouth. Just like a band-aid. You may need to go at it a second time.

One last difficult thing: the finishing touches, using tweezers. The most painful but also the most necessary for a perfect beard, which will make you proud to be a self-sufficient man. Armed with your tweezers, hunt orphan hairs that resisted the waxing. Remove them, with one swift gesture, one at a time. Leave the blond peach fuzz alone, but don’t leave any dark hair threatening your clean look.

To finish, rub your cheekbones with moisturising cream to limit irritations and ingrown hairs. You’re now ready to shine.
